Lacking the epic sweep of Tolkien or even Terry Brooks, the original three xanth novels still stand on their own merits as a fantasy genre classic. Millions have hypnotized themselves with this series, and while I can't encourage anyone to dive into the series, it's probably better than crack for nerdy teenagers
