Bryson demonstrates that one catches more flies with honey than vinegar? a sweet, charming work reflecting the Mr. Nice Guy personality that Bryson clearly is, complete with a nice writer's foil in the trail partner Katz who is all psychoproblems and bad behavior against Bryson's easy going Iowa-ness.

a solid 4, but arguably one that would slip to a 3 rather than jump to a 5 if the razor's edge had to cut... maybe I've just read too many trail books-- the guy in the 70s who first wrote an Appalachian Trail book (was it... [b:A WALK ACROSS AMERICA|122781|A Walk Across America|Peter Jenkins|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1360650221s/122781.jpg|806366]?) and Cheryl Strayed's [b:Wild|1845|Into the Wild|Jon Krakauer|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1320531962s/1845.jpg|3284484] clearly has gobbled up some of the reading public for the 90s.

anyway, you won't waste your dimes on this book-- and given its extremely huge market presentation, presumably the used bookstore will have a copy or three-- as did the last two outlets I checked. 4/5 solid
