this is a good book! I find Keigo Higashino unreadable, so Miyabe Miyuki's work does deserve the 1992 and 1993 medals it won. there's so much J-detective fiction being translated, that one must pick and choose, and Miyabe did successfully advance her genre, adding a tightly-written, deft work with believable characters. kudos to MM
the photograph of the house was a nice, nice touch--> author signifying that obsessions are genetic in nature!
